“Action packed” is a good description for the first 6-months of Chapter 61 Northwoods Muskies. From a great kick-off event in April featuring professional angler and instructor Rob Manthei, to a terrific presentation by Tom Gelb at our May meeting, to four on-the-water fishing/dinner meetings from June to September and an all-day October fishing event, the chapter has certainly hit the ground running. We were also represented at the Gil Hamm Chapter tournament on Lake Vermillion in September. Team members Gary Williams, Dale Jantzen, Nick Durkee and chapter president Mike Sasse all fished and Nick landed a 40” and 42.5” fish and the team finished 4th overall. Nice work representing the Northwoods men! Thanks to the guys from Chicagoland Muskie Hunters for their hosting and organization- everybody enjoyed it and congratulations to Star of the North Chapter for winning the 2013 event!
Fitting with our large geographic diversity, Northwoods Muskies plans to continue a schedule that includes rotating meeting locations at times throughout the year to allow our members to visit new venues, meet new friends and fellow members, and to make some meetings closer to home from time to time. This schedule has been very popular with the membership, and also helps us spread the word about our mission with the local business community.
Northwoods Muskies next meeting will be held November 12th at Musky Shores Resort on Squirrel Lake just west of Minocqua, Wisconsin. December will ring in the holidays with the chapter’s first annual Christmas party! The date is set for December 7th and we’ll be hosted by the Whitetail Inn, located in St. Germain, Wisconsin. Joe Bucher is on tap to be the keynote speaker for December and we’re excited to welcome him and to hear his wisdom on our sport and what innovations he has in the works.
Because we live in the world of technology and embrace it fully in our sport, we’ve made the Northwoods Muskies website the place to go to find directions, meeting times and the very latest information on chapter highlights and programs. Our website director Andrew Ragas works hard to keep information current, accurate and updated regularly. The website is full of news and events, chapter happenings, meeting schedules, chapter contacts and a whole tackle box full of fun. We encourage you to take a cast over to the site when you have a minute.
