Northwoods Muskies Inc. Chapter Newsletter February, 2015

 In News and Press Releases

We hope everyone is keeping warm and healthy during the long winter months. We are all looking forward to signs of spring and of course the onset of open water fishing. I guess it’s safe to say we have a way to go! Please read through the current newsletter and maybe that will warm you up a little.

March General Membership Meeting

Our March meeting will be held at Fibber’s in St. Germain on March 10. We should have a full platter of items to discuss. Our guest speaker will be Mat Hegy of Mat’s Reel Repair in Eagle River. He will be able to field all your questions on reel selection, repair, maintenance, and modifications. If you have reels that need servicing, bring them along and Mat can arrange to take care of you. The meeting will begin at 7:00. Please make a point to attend and why not bring a buddy or two with you?

Headwaters Banquet

Our good neighbors at the Headwaters Chapter in Eagle River will be having their banquet on April 11 at Eagle River Inn. The Headwaters folks have been very supportive of us in our first year and it would be nice to return the good will. We encourage everyone to attend the banquet. Information can be found at the Headwaters Chapter website: http://www.headwatersmuskies.com/pages/banquet-info.php .

Kleeba Challenge Musky Tournament

The Kleeba Challunge is a travelling tournament held annually among the Wisconsin chapters of Muskies, Inc. This year the tournament will be hosted by the Hayward Chapter. Dates and location for the tournament are yet to be determined but will be held in June. We would like to have a team entered in this year’s tourney and we are expecting to be hosting within the next couple years. Please consider participating and gathering your team. Detail will be forthcoming as soon as possible.

Holiday Banquet Wrap Up

Our holiday banquet this year was a fun event. We are grateful to our friends and members for supporting us and making it a success. Special thanks go out to our keynote speaker Steve Heiting. Virgel Beck for his donation of an original musky painting, Red Wing Lodge on Lake of the Woods for a donated fishing trip, Kevin Stahl for a guided trip on Green Bay, and Jim Stewart of the Musky Shop for his continued generous support. Bill Jacobs, president of Headwaters Chapter was the winner of our grand prize of a St. Croix Legend Tournament rod and Shimano Calcutta reel. Thanks to all who attended and supported our chapter.

We are currently in the process of reviewing our membership rolls. If your membership has lapsed or you are in doubt of your status please either visit the Muskies Inc. website to renew your membership or contact Pete Stoltman if you need assistance. Pete can be reached through the Northwoods Muskies website or at Pjsdrum@gmail.com

Stocking

Our board under the leadership of stocking director Dean Zaumseil is continuing to explore stocking opportunities with the DNR. We have an ongoing dialogue with the right people and hope that we will be able to make some impact in this area soon.

Opportunities

We are still looking for someone to take on the position of Youth Activities Director. You don’t necessarily have to be a great fisherman. We just need someone who has an interest in involving our youth in the activity and have some creative thinking and organizational skills. You don’t have to do this alone! We have plenty of people willing to help. We just need somebody to head up this very important position. Please contact any of the board members is you have an interest.
