Northwoods Muskies Inc Newsletter (October 2024)
Greetings All Northwoods Muskies, Inc. Chapter 61 members,
Hope everyone had a good summer and are ready to get back to our regular monthly meetings. October 22nd the board got together to start planning out the 2024 – 2025 calendar. First a review of the past season.
Our Kids Fishing Outings at the Minocqua pier were quite successful. All of the dates were well attended. The July outing had about 29 kids in attendance. We can always use adult helpers. If you are interested in being on this committee, please let us know. Jeff Kinnally is our youth director.
Our monthly Meetings on the Water had lower attendance than we anticipated, however, everyone had a good time and enjoyed fellowship afterwards.
The Chapter Challenge between Northwoods and Headwaters is always a fun event. This year it was held on October 19. Northwoods was able to maintain the trophy for the third year in a row. Thanks to all who participated. Mirrel Kephart caught Big Fish of the tournament with a 46.5” musky. We will be hosting next year. Mark your calendars for October 11th. Fishing at any lake in Vilas County from 7am to 5pm. Meet at Sayner Pub for pizza, awards and stories. If you would like to be on the committee for this event, please let us know.
Make sure you are logging your fish on the National Muskies Inc site. ( Muskiesinc.org) We track the big fish of each month for June, July and August. Winner receives a $50.00 gift card from Last Cast Outfitters in Saint Germain. This years winners are June – Mirrel Kephart with a 43” muskie; July – Pete Stoltman had a 49.75” catch (both of these on local lakes) and August – Cal Jenkins with a LOW 50.5” . Congratulations to all. If you haven’t received your gift card, contact either Pete or Karen and they will get it to you.
We joined the Saint Germain Chamber of Commerce. This allowed us to promote membership at the Saint Germain Musky Tournament. They will also help promote our events and outings and will link to our web site.
Northwoods Muskies Inc have been proud sponsors of the Wounded Warriors in Action Muskie Chal-Lunge. Purple Heart Veterans are flown in from across the United States for an all expense paid weekend in Eagle River. They have lodging at Eagle Waters, area guides volunteer their time to take them out muskie fishing. Several area restaurants provide meals. The veterans also receive St. Croix Rods, reels and several other gifts. Peter, Karen, Christina and Charlie attended the Friday night banquet. There is another fundraiser on November 13th to raise funds for next year’s event. A spaghetti dinner will be held at the Kalmar Community Center from 4pm until 8pm. Pete and Karen have tickets at Last Cast. Dinner is $12.00 for adults. Give us a call if you would like to attend or stop in to get your tickets.
